Christian Dior was Just Meant to Be

Christian Dior is one of the great fashion houses of the world and this empire started with a very first collection in 1947. It was in this year that a "new look" for women was introduced, this "look" introduced the famous Dior rounded shoulder, the tiny waisted look with the full skirt. It was an homage to femininity.

It is truly amazing that Dior started designing women's fashion, as he was actually a graduate of political science, and had served in the military and didn't start designing until he was in his 30's. But in 1938 after returning from the war he started selling sketches . It was the designer Robert Piguet who first hired him for these sketches. It wasn't until 1946 that he and the textile manufacturer Marcel Boussac opened the first Dior Fashion house.



Every year since then each collection has had a certain theme, starting with the figure 8, countinuing with the tulip, and then on to the A-line and so on.

Dior is credited as being one of the few designers to restore Paris after the second world war as the fashion city of the world. Later he not only designed women's clothing but also men's, and accessories, and eyeglass wear too.
